...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 430 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of central South Carolina, including the following counties, Aiken, Lexington and Richland. * WHEN...Until 430 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 227 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Columbia, Lexington, West Columbia, Cayce, Irmo, Springdale, Red Bank, Oak Grove, Highway 6 at Lake Murray Dam, St. Andrews, Dentsville, South Congaree, Pine Ridge, Columbia Metro Airport, Riverbanks Zoo, Harbison State Forest, Ballentine, Columbia International University, Killian and Lake Carolina. - This includes the following highways... Interstate 126 between mile markers 0 and 2. Interstate 26 between mile markers 94 and 115. Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile markers 39 and 71. Northern Kershaw County in central South Carolina... Southern Lancaster County in central South Carolina... North Central Richland County in central South Carolina... * Until 530 PM EDT. * At 225 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Lake Wateree Dam, Kershaw, Elgin, Heath Springs, Westville, Liberty Hill, Lake Wateree State Park, Longtown, Mt Pisgah, Blythewood, Ridgeway, Lake Wateree near Highway 97, Dekalb, Pleasant Hill, North Central High School, Faith Christian School, Kershaw Correctional Institution, Pine Grove Fire Station, Kirk Air Base and Forty Acre Rock Preserve. This includes Interstate 77 between mile markers 31 and 43. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Most flooding deaths occur in vehicles. Never drive through a flooded roadway or around barricades. ...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 330 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of central South Carolina, including the following county, Richland. * WHEN...Until 330 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 135 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Columbia, West Columbia, Cayce, Forest Acres, St. Andrews, Five Points, SC State Fair Grounds, Rosewood and Olympia. - This includes the following highways... Interstate 126 near mile marker 3.
