At 311 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Socastee, moving east at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Myrtle Beach Airport, Springmaid Pier, Socastee, Garden City, Murrells Inlet, Red Hill, Burgess, Bucksville, Bucksport, Forestbrook, Hand, Barefoot Landing Area Of North Myrtle Beach, Briarcliffe Acres, Waccamaw Community Hospital, and Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. ...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM APPROACHING THE WATERS... The areas affected include... Coastal waters from Little River Inlet to Murrells Inlet SC out 20 NM... At 308 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. This thunderstorm was located near Surfside Beach, moving east at 15 knots. Locations impacted include... Springmaid Pier, Myrtle Beach Rock, Surfside Beach, and Myrtle Beach. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. If caught on the open water, prepare for deteriorating conditions. Make sure you and your crew are wearing properly fitted life jackets. A special marine warning may eventually be required when this strong thunderstorm reaches the nearshore waters. Boaters should consider heading for shore before this strong thunderstorm arrives. &&

There is also a Moderate Risk of rip currents expected. * WHERE...In North Carolina, Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover Counties. In South Carolina, Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown Counties. * WHEN...Through Wednesday evening. * IMPACTS...Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making it difficult to return to shore. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards you may be swept into. &&
